In 1999, Bill Plifka won a World Championship Gold Medal in the Men's Lightweight 8+ in St. Catherine's, Canada.
This was the first gold medal for a US Lightweight 8+ in 25 years. In 1998, he won a silver medal in the lightweight 8+ at the
World Championships in Cologne, Germany. In 1995, Bill's lightweight 8+ placed 5th in the World Championships at Aiguebelette,
France. While a student at Sarasota High School, Bill rowed on the Sarasota High Four that won the Florida State Championship
and also rowed on two Junior National Teams, (Munich, Germany in 1994 and Posnan, Poland in 1995). After graduation from
Sarasota High, Bill attended Northeastern on a rowing scholarship. Bill now assists in coaching the Osprey Oars.
